World Map Birthday ~ A Fun Stampers Journey Card

I took a bit of a break from creating cards and blogging most of last week because I was busy spending a lot of time with family.  We lost a special man, my father-in-law, unexpectedly.  Right now I can't begin to describe the loss the family feels. :'(  He will be greatly missed by us!  During this loss there was a special day for someone else though and creating this card brought some joy back in the midst of sadness.  My dad celebrated his 70th birthday so I couldn't miss making a card for him!

Since I don't have a lot of stamps yet from Fun Stampers Journey I decided to use a background stamp to create this card and give it some dimension.  It's kind of like a triple layer card except the layers are scattered here and there...if that makes any sense!  I like to use that technique every now and then.

I used the Beach Towel embossing folder for the background, then layered the stamp by cutting squares out and piecing them together on top of each other.   I cut the top two that are flush with the card the first time I stamped the image.  For the bottom two squares that are popped up, I inked the area of the stamp that I knew I wanted and cut them out.  I layered each of the squares on top of a piece of Dark Roast card stock that I cut 1/8" bigger than what the squares measured.

I have no idea why this third pic that I took has such a different color from the other two pictures I took.  Must be the lighting!  All I know is it was good to get back to something I love for just a little while. :)

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Sharing in Your Sorrow

Today over at Try Stampin' or Not on Tuesday we have another great sketch for you.   As I was checking the sketch out to make my card I knew I needed to make a few sympathy cards.  These are always the hardest for me to make because I want them to be special and touch each person I send them to.  I have such a hard time writing what's in my heart.  Some people are so blessed with that gift and can just write away...not me!  That's one reason I like making cards...my feeling are expressed in what I create instead of what I say.  With that being said I created the same card, just used different base colors. I used the triple layer technique and just went with the tree scene on the outside.  I did sponge on one of the cards a bit just to see what it was like...and to cover up the fact that there was just a bit of empty space where the tree image didn't stamp as close as I had hoped. lol

Here is the sketch we used.  Make sure you head over to Try Stampin' or Not on Tuesday HERE to see all the other cards the ladies created using this sketch.  Play along with us too.  We'd love to see what you create. :)

My card base color on this card is Early Espresso and I used retired cardstock Naturals White.

My card base color on this card is Soft Suede and I used retired card stock Naturals Ivory.

The card base color on my last card is Chocolate Chip and I used retired card stock Naturals White on this one too.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Layered Corner Garden

So glad it's Friday!  I am ready for this week to be done, but not before I show you my card for this week's Friday Mashup.  I'm the hostess this week and this is what my mashup is...

Create a project with the "Triple Layer Technique" Tutorial HERE.
Create a project that's "Floral".
or Mash it Up! and create a "Floral Triple Layer Project".

I think I've said it here before, but if not I love winter.  Well, not winter so much but the snow.  If it's going to be cold I want snow.  Not rain, not mud, not dead brown grass and weeds...pure white snow to cover the yuck!  We've had it for a bit again, but as much as I love it I always miss stepping outside and seeing all kinds of flowers in my back yard.  That's what today's card is about...anything floral and add the triple layer technique to it.  A few month's back I did a different twist on the triple layer technique using the stamp set Lovely as a Tree.  I loved how that card turned out, so I decided to try that twist again using the stamp Corner Garden.

Let me tell you I will NEVER color all these flowers in again!  As much as I like how it turned out it was a LOT of coloring especially since I had to double some of it!  I actually used water color paper and colored everything in with Blendabilities.  It's a lot different coloring on watercolor paper with them than on Very Vanilla or Whisper White card stock.  It bleeds and blends a lot better, but you do have to really watch it a lot more.  Make sure you head over to the Friday Mashup HERE.  The designers made some fabulous cards!  I hope you'll play along too.  I'd love to see what you create!

Just a few more pics at different angles so you can see the layers. :)

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Layered Lovely as a Tree

Today's card is one that I had a lot of fun making!  Ever look at a sketch challenge and wonder what in the world you're going to make with it?  That's what happened when I first looked at this sketch from Try Stampin' on Tuesday.  Then an idea popped into my head and I ran with it...that's why I said I had a lot of fun with it.  I love it when a card manages to fly together.  Yup, I'm a slow stamper and things need to be "just so" before I'll go on, but this one came together pretty quickly. :)

This is the sketch we had to work with and you can see I did change things up a little.  I wanted to use squares instead of circles, and to fit all the trees from my stamp on the card I had to make it horizontal instead of vertical.  I also changed where I put the sentiment.  I just couldn't get the banner to look right because it was covering too much of my trees no matter how thin I made it.

Make sure you stop by Try Stampin' on Tuesday see all the great cards made using this sketch and to give it a try.  The twist for this week is Trees and Leaves, but I just stuck with trees this time around. :)

I had fun taking pics and a lot more turned out than not this time.  I usually have a hard time getting pics that show the card how it actually looks.

Thanks for looking and have a great day!

Everything Eleanor

Today's card is another triple layer card for my September stamp a stack.  The ladies really liked the last one they made, and said they wouldn't mind making another one.  I changed this one up just a little bit by shifting the paper up so I could put my sentiment at the bottom.  Some of them might do it this way and others might do it the original way. :)

Mixed Bunch Triple Layer

Today's card is not the norm for my cards, but I've seen them all over the place lately!  I made one at my upline's demo meeting last week and thought I'd give one a try myself. :) I plan on using this technique for a card at my next stamp a stack, just not sure if this is the card I'll be using or not.
